How we score a prospect

No black box. Here is exactly what makes a prospect worth pursuing, in what order, and why. The rubric is calibrated on thousands of analyzed sites.

  1. 01

    An inverted score: weakness first

Most tools score how good a business is. We do the opposite. For a web agency, the best prospect is not the most impressive business, it is the one whose website is the weakest and whose activity is solid enough to fund a redesign. The score measures the sales opportunity, not the prospect's success.

    70% Website weakness30% Business strength
    70%Website weakness

The technical state of the site carries most of the weight: it is what you will sell.

    30%Business strength

A living business, recent reviews and an open company, breaks the tie between two prospects with a similar site. A recently created company also gets a small boost, always within its tier.

  2. 02

    What moves a prospect up

From highest to lowest priority. The most serious flaw sets the level, and it is never offset by business strength.

Top opportunityThe hottest prospect, contact first.
    • Broken, down, parked or expired site

The hottest prospect: they no longer have a working site.

    • Very weak SEO

The site exists but is nearly invisible on Google.

    • No HTTPS

An unsecured site, a clear sign of technical neglect.

Good opportunityA real need, a bit less urgent.
    • Google listing pointing to a broken site

The main storefront is broken, even if a site exists elsewhere.

    • No site at all

      Everything to build, from scratch.

Limited opportunityLittle or nothing to sell honestly.
    • Dated but working design

A redesign to pitch, less urgent.

    • Healthy site

Nothing to sell honestly: not a prospect.

  3. 03

The honesty rule: never a false defect

A score is only worth something if you can defend it to the prospect. So when we cannot verify a defect, we do not assert it.

The honesty rule: never a false defect
    • A site our crawlers cannot audit, protected or unreachable, is marked "to verify" and stays neutral. We do not invent an outage.
    • A displayed defect is a defect actually observed on the live site.
    • A closed business never surfaces as a hot prospect.

Calibrated, not frozen

The exact thresholds and fine weighting are continuously tuned from the thousands of sites we analyze, so the score stays true to the field. What you see here is the logic; the settings evolve with the data.
